Grief
Counseling

Have you experienced a loss in your life that has created deep pain and sadness?

Are you grieving the loss of a loved one or relationship?

Have you experienced a miscarriage that’s left you reeling?

Are you going through the pain of a divorce, grieving the relationship you thought you had?

Are you grieving the loss of a sense of safety or security after a traumatic event?

Grief counseling is a tender and intimate process, unique to the person experiencing it. The emotional spectrum associated with grief is layered and complex and can stem from a myriad of losses; the death of a loved one, loss of a job or relationship, a miscarriage, or the aftermath of a major life transition.

At our practice, we refer to J. William Worden’s four tasks for processing grief as a framework for this kind of counseling. They include:

1) Accepting the reality of the loss.

2) Understanding and processing the pain of the grief.

3) Adjusting to a life and world without your loved one.

4) Emotionally relocating your loved one while embarking on a new life.

We work through this framework as a way to acknowledge your loss and eventually grow from the pain. Grief can feel overpowering and can sometimes feel like it will last forever, but therapy can help you move through the transitions so that in spite of your loss, you can live a happy, full life.

The grief emotion is part of what makes humaning so hard, but we’ve seen time and again that people are resilient and can bounce back from even the most devastating setback. Working with a therapist to understand grief and process the loss within the context of everyday life can help speed the recovery process along.

Processing grief is not easy, but we’re here to support you as you walk the path to healing.

  • Accepting the Reality of the Loss Grief

  • Understand and Process the Pain of Grief

  • Adjust to a Life and World Without Your Loved One

  • Emotionally Relocate Your Loved One While Embarking on a New Life.
