Therapy FAQs
-
Simply click on our Contact or Book an Appointment page, or call us directly (626.214.8384). Our Clinic Coordinators will walk you through the process of matching with a therapist and scheduling your first appointment or free consultation.
-
Yes, we offer a free 20-minute phone or video consultation to help you get matched with a therapist who best fits your needs. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, share what you’re looking for, and get a feel for whether we’re the right fit — no pressure, no commitment.
You can schedule your consultation through our Book an Appointment or Contact page or by calling our office directly.
-
That’s completely normal — many people feel uncertain or anxious before their first session. Starting therapy is a brave and meaningful step, and it’s okay to not have everything figured out.
Our therapists are here to create a safe, supportive space where you can go at your own pace. You don’t have to know exactly what to say or where to begin — just showing up is enough. We’ll meet you with compassion, not judgment, and walk alongside you as you navigate whatever brings you in.
-
We work with adults, teens, children, couples, and families on a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, ADHD, relationship challenges, and more. Each of our therapists has their own specialties — you can read about them on our https://mapleleafcounseling.org/meet-the-team.
-
Yes. We are committed to inclusive, culturally responsive care for people of all identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Many of our clinicians specialize in working with diverse communities.
-
Yes! We offer both. Our therapists see clients in person at our Arcadia or Claremont offices and via secure video sessions for clients anywhere in California.
-
We’re here to help! Our clinic coordinators will ask you a few brief questions and match you with a therapist based on your needs, goals, and preferences. You can also view each therapist’s profile to get a sense of their style and approach.
-
The first session is all about getting to know you — your history, your goals, and what’s bringing you to therapy now. Your therapist will ask thoughtful questions and help you begin to map out a plan for your care.
-
Sessions are typically 50 minutes. Most clients begin with weekly sessions, and then adjust frequency based on progress and goals.
-
Yes — your privacy is extremely important to us. What you share in therapy is kept confidential and protected by law. We will not share any information about you without your written consent.
There are a few legal exceptions to confidentiality, such as if there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse of a child, elder, or dependent adult, or if we are required to comply with a court order.
We’ll go over these limits in your first session, so you’ll always know exactly where your privacy stands.
-
We are an out-of-network provider, which means we don't bill insurance directly, but we do provide superbills for PPO plans so you can request reimbursement. Our session fees range from $125 to $225], depending on the provider.
-
A superbill is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement (if you have PPO or OON benefits). We’re happy to walk you through the process and provide what you need.
To make this process easier, we partner with Mentaya, a tool that helps you verify your OON benefits and even submits claims on your behalf. You can use Mentaya to check your potential reimbursement before you begin therapy. We're happy to guide you through that process!
-
We accept all major credit and debit cards, including HSA and FSA cards. Payment is typically collected at the time of each session.
If you’re using out-of-network insurance benefits, we can provide a superbill for reimbursement — and we also offer support through Mentaya, which helps streamline the claim process
-
We require at least 24 hours notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to the full session fee.
